Agreement on a document was facilitated by the leadership
of the Foundation. This statement was the culmination of
discussions and coordination among all the Christian leadership
of Lebanon (Former President Amin Gemayel, President of the Ahrar,
Dory Chamoun, and representatives of the Lebanese Forces and General
Aoun). This document was presented to U.S. congressmen, the media
and the public at a meeting in Washington, D.C., at the Capitol.
We believe this project helps promote unity among all Lebanese,
especially the Maronites, and is a fitting example of the work
we are meant to do,
MEDIA RELEASE
A meeting was held in Washington, D.C., in the Dirksen Senate
Building on Capitol Hill. In attendance were leaders of
the Christian leadership in Lebanon and their representatives.
Amin Gemayel, Former President of Lebanon
Dory Chamoun, President of the Ahrar
Dr. Joseph Jebailly, Policy Council,
Lebanese Forces
Mr. Toufic Soyad, Kataeb
Mr. Milad Zohrab, Ahrar Abroad
and representatives of other parties. Also in attendance
was Member of the Federal Canadian Parliament, Mr. Mark Assad.
The group adopted by concensus the attached document, and pledged
to work together to develop a declaration of human rights for
Lebanon. This was such a historic occasion in that it is
the first time that a document of principle, based on a desirable
end-state for Lebanon was agreed upon without negative attacks
on any persons, countries or parties. It prescribed the
ideal condition for a future Lebanon. All parties have pledged
to work toward this end-state, and support all who would help
make this end-state reality.
